Lovable Lucy

Friday was a grey and rainy day - the first such in over a month. As Rebekah and I waited to board the ferry to Victoria you could see the disappointment on the faces of the tourists around us. For Rebekah and me the rain made absolutely no difference because the attraction we were going to see wasn't a beach, or killer whales or a fancy garden. We were headed to Vancouver Island to meet baby Lucy! Here is a glimpse of our weekend in pictures.

Diana already has this mothering thing down to a fine art. If I had tried to put that wrap on with Lucy in it we would have ended up looking like a pretzel.

Karsten has taken a couple weeks off work to spend some time getting to know his new daughter, and to help out Diana. Can't you almost feel the love oozing out of that picture? My son is smitten. And I must say, having four younger siblings has its benefits. He is very good at changing diapers.

Lucy's arrival gave Rebekah a new designation - that of aunt. She looks pretty pleased to hold both the title and the baby.

It was fun having Diana's mom Jin Ping over. The last time I saw her was in 2009 when we were traveling in China together.

This was an awesome moment. Lucy had just spat up all down the front of Karsten's shirt.

Thanks to the cold weather Lucy was able to wear the Baby Surprise jacket I made for her.

Jin Ping had brought over some of the cutest outfits from China. We laughed over the fact the pants all had slits in the bottoms.

Here's Lucy in one of the outfits my mom got her. My mom had lots of fun in the months leading up to Lucy's birth shopping for baby things.

I would show you more pictures, but for some reason Blogger won't let me upload any more onto this blog post. They must know that proud new grandmas can get a bit carried away and have some kind of limit. No worries though. I am headed back to Victoria in a week and a half with my mom, so there will be more Lucy pictures soon. And I know every grandparent probably says this about their grandchild, but she really is the cutest baby ever.

  1. No, you're right. She is the cutest baby ever. And I can't imagine how you felt watching Karsten be so smitten over Lucy. Gosh, makes my heart bulge hard just imagining it. Except for spitting up all over Karsten's shirt she looks like a peaceful happy little baby! This post made me so happy. xo

  3. I can't argue with you about Lucy. She's pretty darn cute. Everyone is different, but I suspect the first time Karsten held Lucy he gained some insight on how his parents feel about him. :)

PS - Diana must be a time traveler. She looks too together to have just delivered Lucy.

  4. Precious little baby! One of the unexpected joys when my first grandchild was born was seeing my son evolve as a parent. He acted like an old pro at parenthood from the moment his daughter was born!

I rode one of the ferries from Vancouver to Victoria and back again years ago, and I was amazed at how huge those ferries are and how they can hold cars, trucks, and buses, as well as passengers. That was a lot of fun and awesomeness for someone from Texas!

Too cute! Especially modelling the BSJ. And what a lovely home - I have to say that their paint scheme looks REMARKABLY similar to the colours we chose for our new house...and that wainscotting has me planning a diy project for our dining room!

  22. Oh, isn't she lovely! How cruel of Blogger to limit you to just 9 photos. :-) She is so sweet in her new outfits and with winter coming her way I can foresee lots more of them.

  23. Congratulations on becoming a grandma for the first time! Lucy is adorable. I too became a grandma for the first time in August to a little girl named Lilly! Isn't it funny that would happen. Ironic that our two sons who were born a month apart a few!! years ago would give us our first grandchild at same time, both girls, and both names starting with an L! Reminds me of when they were babies at Christmas and grandma gave them matching yellow outfits! Do you remember? Memories!
