We Did It!

We actually did it! In spite of a flight delay (Rebekah and Anton's plane had a mechanical problem and had to turn around and go back to Seattle), and bad roads (David and Heather drove over the notorious Coquihalla in the snow), everyone managed to gather together to celebrate Christmas 2014. There was more than enough food, not a single appliance stopped working, the power didn't go out, the rental cottage worked brilliantly, and I won the game of Settlers of Catan. (That last bit wasn't necessary for a successful holiday, but it did help my self-esteem as I hardly ever win.)

The one glitch was several people were sick. The day we had our celebration Lucy had a fever, and the next day Rebekah was under the weather. Unfortunately that was the day she had planned to make a Russian themed dinner for everyone. I wasn't looking forward to making dozens of cabbage rolls by myself, but I needn't have worried. There were lots of helping hands, and with Rebekah's guidance we put together quite a feast.

Here's a peak into the Hammond cottage during Christmas 2014:

Kitchen helpers...

Sharing the love, and maybe a few germs...

Stuffing blocks down her dress...

Opening gifts...

The corner of shame (it actually got worse after I took this picture)...

It's what happens when you have this many people and pets gathered together...

The sweater was a perfect fit...

There were fairy lights...

A constant blur of people and pets...

And an abundance of Christmas joy...

  4. Lucy gets more adorable all the time! I love that sweater! The lambs! The green! A lot of my photos were blurry, too! Low light plus dogs and babies do not make for great photography! Although, your and my photos are true to life, capturing all the activity. I'm so glad you didn't have any of the feared problems. Were you worried someone might get sick? Perhaps you should have, and then maybe they wouldn't have--that's my philosophy, although I know it goes against the "positive thinking" crowd. :-) But then I did refuse to get sick when my husband got sick on Christmas Eve Day and was not feeling well enough to help as much as he would have. Same on Christmas Day. I knew I couldn't get sick until everyone left, which is what I did. We're both fine now.

  11. It looks like a Christmas to remember. Sadly we didn't manage to get all of our four and their partners in the same place at the same time this year. And a family member at one remove from my own little clan decided to speak her misguided mind and upset a lot of people. Unfortunately our Christmas was memorable for the wrong reasons! Here's hoping we all have a fabulous 2015 xxx

  20. It's always fun to get the whole gang together, but invariably something goes amiss. It sounds like you had a wonderful time despite the illnesses. What fun to make a Russian meal. I didn't know cabbage rolls were Russian as well. The little sweater is adorable, by the way.

  24. What a beautiful family you have Kristie! I don't think we even managed a family photo this year, we were all too relaxed. I am glad you have a corner of shame, too. Happy New Year to you and yours. x

  26. I'm pleasantly surprised about the applicances...and about how tall Lucy is getting. Her folks need to slow that down. I'm glad you had a such nice family time during the holidays. And I hope the bug didn't find it's way to you. Someone who simply was having "allergies" managed to pass a virus to me right after Christmas. So I've been taking lots of zinc, decongestants and drinking lots of tea. So it wasn;t all bad, right. :) Happy 2015!

  27. What a wonderful family Christmas, despite the plane delay and the bugs. We always reckoned we were lucky if the children didn't bring an unwanted present home with them. :)
